The Faculty of Synthetic Biology (Synbio Faculty) is one of the six founding faculties of Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology （SUAT） co-established with the Institute of Synthetic Biology (iSynBio), Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, and Chinese Academy of Sciences.Synbio Faculty and iSynBio share their resources and coordinate their research programs. Rooted in a strong foundation of biological sciences and biotechnology, the faculty distinguishes itself with synthetic biology as its hallmark.

Kang Le is an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), Foreign Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), CAS Distinguished Professor, and Chair Professor of the Faculty of Synthetic Biology at Shenzhen University of Technology. Kang Le is an internationally renowned and recognized ecological genomic scientist. After obtaining his doctoral degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990, he has been engaged in scientific research at the Institute of Zoology, CAS, focusing primarily on eco-genomics and animal adaptation.

Professor Hu Qiang is currently a Chair Professor and the Head of the Engineering Biology Department at the Faculty of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology. He also serves as a Guest Researcher at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is a recipient of the National Distinguished Expert title. He served as President of the International Society for Applied Phycology (ISAP) from 2019 to 2024 and is currently the outgoing President of ISAP for the term 2024-2027. Professor Hu has been recognized on the “Global Top 2% Scientists List” and the “Lifetime Scientific Impact Ranking”.
