The SynBio Challenges is the second largest global synthetic biology competition, hosted by the Chinese Society of Biotechnology. It is co-organized by the Faculty of Synthetic Biology at Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT), the Institute of Synthetic Biology at the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Shenzhen Institute of Synthetic Biology, the Shenzhen Synthetic Biology Association, and National Industrial Innovation Center for Bio-Manufacturing.
Leveraging a panel of leading synthetic biology experts and world-class synthetic biology infrastructure, the competition targets undergraduate and graduate students, embodying the philosophy of “Build to Learn, Build to Use”. It features five tracks: General Projects, Bacterial Strategy Game, Protein Design, Synthetic Cells, and Responsible Life Science Innovation. The competition aims to foster original innovation through three core challenges—knowledge accumulation, problem analysis, and continuous refinement—while providing a platform for young students to engage with top scholars, showcase their creativity, and contribute to the talent pipeline for synthetic biology, life sciences, and interdisciplinary fields.
