In July 2023, the National Development and Reform Commission approved the establishment of the National Industrial Innovation Center for Bio-manufacturing (NIICB), the 10th national industrial innovation center and the only one in Shenzhen. Operating on a market-driven model to achieve self-sustainability, the center collaborates with leading entities across the bio-manufacturing industry chain. Through its operating entity, Shenzhen Industrial Innovation Center for Bio-manufacturing Co., Ltd., it coordinates efforts in key technology development, major industry platform cultivation, strategic regional cooperation, and talent development systems, contributing to the high-quality development of the bioeconomy.
