Professor at Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology. He is a recipient of the National Key Research and Development Program of China (plant artificial chromosome design and construction project) and was selected for Shenzhen Pengcheng Peacock Plan (Category C).

He pioneered established a PpFab metabolic engineering platform based on YeastFab. Taking the biosynthesis of betaine as an example, the efficient expression of betaine in P. patens was achieved by optimizing the combination of multiple genes in the betaine biosynthesis pathway. The establishment of this platform lays a foundation for the future metabolic engineering application of P. patens as chassis cells. He also participated in the partial design and synthesis of the first multicellular plant chromosome. This research achieved artificial synthesis and replacement of approximately one-third of the chromosome arms within the moss P. patens, laying the technical foundation for the broader Synthetic Moss Genome Project (SynMoss) and paving the way for synthetic gene assembly in multicellular organisms.

Luo Guangyu has authored over 10 SCI-indexed papers with more than 30 citations. As the first or co-first author, he has published over 5 academic papers in prestigious journals such as Nature Plants, Plant Physiology, and Cell Chemical Biology.

Research Areas

Establishment of high-throughput characterization platforms and experimental systems in plant synthetic biology, along with modification of plant chassis cells;evaluation of gene element expression compatibility and functional adaptability optimization;reconstruction and regulation of heterologous biosynthetic pathways for plant secondary metabolites.

Current primary research directions include: 1. Development of high-throughput transient/stable characterization platforms;2. Establishment and optimization of single/multigene non-transgenic label transformation systems in plants;3. Breeding improvement, nutritional enhancement, and green manufacturing of fruit and vegetable varieties based on synthetic biology strategies.
