Representative Research and Industrial Achievements
The research group led by Tao Yu transformed CO₂ into high-value compounds, turning “waste into treasure”, a key focus of scientific research. The synthetic biology team and collaborators developed an innovative CO₂ conversion pathway, combining electrocatalysis with biosynthesis to successfully synthesize glucose and fatty acids from CO₂ and water (Nat Catalysis, 2022). This breakthrough establishes a new strategy for producing food products like glucose through electrochemical and live-cell catalysis, offering a novel paradigm for electricity-driven agriculture and bio-manufacturing while supporting dual-carbon goals.
