The Faculty of Synthetic Biology (SynBio Faculty) is one of the six founding faculties of SUAT co-established with the Institute of Synthetic Biology (iSynBio), Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Rooted in a strong foundation of biological sciences and biotechnology, the faculty distinguishes itself with synthetic biology as its hallmark. It strives to build an innovative platform for education and research that emphasizes cutting-edge interdisciplinary studies.

Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), Foreign Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), CAS Distinguished Professor, and Chair Professor of the faculty of Synthetic Biology at Shenzhen University of Technology, Prof. Kang is an internationally renowned and recognized ecological genomic scientist. After obtaining his doctoral degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990, he has been engaged in scientific research at the Institute of Zoology, CAS, focusing primarily on eco-genomics and animal adaptation.

Dr. Zhenbiao Yang is a Chair Professor of Synthetic Biology and Director of the Institute of Emerging Agricultural Technology, Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology. He is an internationally known plant biologist and a pioneer and a leader in multiple areas of plant cell biology. His groundbreaking contributions include: 1. Discovering and elucidating the mechanism of auxin signal perception and transduction at the cell surface. 2. Unveiling the mechanism for auxin-mediated rapid growth, solving the 50 years-old puzzle of "acid growth hypothesis". 3. Identifying ROP GTPase and ROP-based signaling networks as well as their roles in plant growth, development, and high-yield processes. 4. Establishing the design principles of polar cell growth in plants by elucidating the mechanisms underlying rapid pollen tube growth and leaf epidermal cell morphogenesis.

Dr. Qiang HU is a Chair Professor at the Faculty of Synthetic Biology and Head of the Department of Engineering Biology, Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology. He is also a Guest Researcher at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Prior to these positions, he was a full professor at Arizona State University.

Vice Chairman of Transplantation Immunology Committee, Chinese Society for Immunology. Editor of Exp Rev of Clin Immunol, Cell and Molecular Immunology. Received the National "Outstanding Youth Fund". He had published more than 200 SCI articles, including Nature Medicine, Nature Communications, JEM, Blood, Journal of Immunology, and American Journal of Transplantation. Published two book "Xenotransplantation Immunology" and "Transplant Immune Tolerance" as Editor-in-chief.

Qizhou Lian is a Distinguished Professor under the National Major Talent Program at Shenzhen University of Advanced Technology (SUAT) and an adjunct Principal Investigator at the Institute of Synthetic Biology, Shenzhen Institutes of Advanced Technology (SIAT), Chinese Academy of Sciences. With over 25 years of experience in stem cell and gene therapy research at the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service in Edinburgh, he also serves as a grant reviewer for international agencies such as ANR, ISF, UKRI, NSFC, and HKSPInCUBIO, and has been an Associate Editor for the journal Transplantation.
