The Faculty of Synthetic Biology (SynBio Faculty) is one of the six founding faculties of SUAT co-established with the Institute of Synthetic Biology (iSynBio), Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Rooted in a strong foundation of biological sciences and biotechnology, the faculty distinguishes itself with synthetic biology as its hallmark. It strives to build an innovative platform for education and research that emphasizes cutting-edge interdisciplinary studies.

Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Foreign Member of the National Academy of Sciences (USA), Foreign Member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO), CAS Distinguished Professor, and Chair Professor of the faculty of Synthetic Biology at Shenzhen University of Technology, Prof. Kang is an internationally renowned and recognized ecological genomic scientist. After obtaining his doctoral degree from the Chinese Academy of Sciences in 1990, he has been engaged in scientific research at the Institute of Zoology, CAS, focusing primarily on eco-genomics and animal adaptation.

With over 25 years of experience in stem cell and gene therapy research at the National University of Singapore, the University of Hong Kong, and the Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service in Edinburgh, he also serves as a grant reviewer for international agencies such as ANR, ISF, UKRI, NSFC, and HKSPInCUBIO, and has been an Associate Editor for the journal Transplantation.
